I’m fundraising because I want to make a difference. 1.8 billion people around the world currently lack access to safe water, many of whom cannot attend school or work due to water-related diseases. Lives are being lost every day due to these largely preventable diseases, and I want to be a part of the change.
Specifically, the people of Indonesia need help. Indonesia is the third most populated country in the world, and its main water source, the Citarum River, provides for over 9 million people. However, the Citarum River is the most polluted river in the world and causes many health issues. Therefore, we are hosting a Swim-a-Thon at Hobcaw Yacht Club on June 8th, 2017 to raise money for a water filtration system called the Living Water Treatment System. The system sanitises up to 10,000 gallons of water daily, enough for 5,000 people. Providing this system will help support a local community in Indonesia called Pamau. The water system is $35,000, so we need as much help as possible to reach that amount!
Water Mission, a Christian engineering organization, has already provided safe water to over 3 million people in 52 countries, and with our help, even more lives can be saved. Water Mission creates customized and innovative, safe water solutions and invests in community development to ensure the solutionswill last for generations.
